On 18 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Anurat Thammathitjit, Governor of Sisaket Province, sent a letter to the Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province regarding his objection to the use of the Sisaket area as a water retardation area. The statements are as follows:
With Sisaket Province being notified by the Moon River Basin People's Network (CMU), I would like to object to the use of the Sisaket area as a water retardation area, which has resulted in the flooding of people around both banks of the Mun River and nearby areas that feed on houses and buildings.
In order to be clear on the issue of water management, especially the use of the area of Sisaket Province (Rajasthan Dam and Hua Na Dam) as a retarding area to prevent water from flowing into Ubon Ratchathani city. And most importantly, water management with water retardation has resulted in psychological effects in the production of investments. People do not have confidence, resulting in stagnation. Delaying investments negatively affects many careers and economies.
In this regard, Sisaket Province would like to kindly inform the concerned persons to manage the water so as not to affect the area of Sisaket Province further.
